With the LOGO! 9, Siemens is introducing the next generation of its compact logic controller. This marks a comprehensive generational change after around eleven years. The aim is to meet the growing demands of building and industrial automation.
The controller is still designed for classic applications. These include switching and control tasks in building services engineering and mechanical engineering. At the same time, Siemens is expanding the range of functions and operating concepts.
Significantly enhanced performance
A key innovation is the increased computing and functional capacity. The LOGO! 9 supports up to 800 function blocks, which is double the previous capacity.
The I/O capacity has also increased significantly. The following are possible:
- 64 digital inputs
- 60 digital outputs
- 16 analogue inputs and outputs
In addition, new signal processing functions have been introduced. These include floating-point arithmetic and a new analogue module with selectable resolution. These expand the possibilities for processing measured values and simple control tasks.
Modern operating and display concept
The hardware features a revised operating concept. The display variants feature an integrated colour touchscreen instead of the previous button interface. Siemens continues to offer the LOGO! 9 versions without an integrated display. This enables the controller to be adapted to different operational, spatial and cost requirements.
An external 4.3-inch text display is also available. Offering a higher resolution, it is used for visualisation directly at the plant. This makes operation more convenient. Status displays and diagnostic functions can be shown directly on site.
Engineering: Integration and platform independence
With LOGO! Soft Comfort V9, Siemens is advancing the engineering environment consistently. This software tool combines programming, simulation and web visualisation.
New features include:
- Plug-and-play installation
- Cross-platform use (Windows, macOS and Linux).
- Integrated web editor with simulation
- Role-based user concept
Existing projects remain compatible and can continue to be used.
Security is an integral component
LOGO! 9 integrates security functions directly into the platform. These include Secure Boot, protected communication, and controlled firmware updates. These functions address the growing demand for cybersecurity in automation.
Scalability, compatibility and long-term usability
The future-proofing of LOGO! 9 is not based on new individual applications, but on structural characteristics. The controller is scalable. Its I/O capacities and range of functions can be adapted to growing requirements.
At the same time, the platform remains compatible. Existing projects can be transferred and developed further. This combination enables long-term use. Systems can be expanded step by step without replacing the controller entirely.

Conclusion: Clear further development with a technical focus
LOGO! 9 introduces concrete technical innovations. These include additional function blocks, enhanced I/O structures, new calculation functions, and a contemporary operating concept.
However, the focus remains on building on existing strengths. Scalability, compatibility and integrated safety form the basis for use in future automation projects.
