Das neue Mikrocontroller-Board von Arduino ist da: der Arduino Uno R4

Arduino’s latest microcontroller board is here: the Arduino Uno R4

There is great news for all Arduino fans: the latest Arduino Uno R4 is here. Its predecessor, the Arduino Uno R3, is one of the most well-known and widely used microcontroller boards. The all-round talent is ideal for getting started with programming thanks to its ease of use and robustness. Arduino is now launching the long-awaited successor: the Arduino Uno R4 is available in the reichelt shop.

More computing power, more memory

Like its popular Arduino Uno R3 predecessor, the Arduino Uno R4 conforms to the open-source standard in both hardware and software. The inexpensive microcontroller convinces when used as a control system for all kinds of systems.

In addition, the new model comes with some improvements. Powered by the Renesas RA4M1 32-bit Cortex®-M4 processor, it offers a threefold increase in performance over its predecessor. In addition, the SRAM was expanded from 2kB to 32kB and the flash memory from 32kB to 256kB. For the user, this means both more computing power and a larger memory and consequently more functionality.

Another plus is the board’s connection options, which significantly reduce the wiring effort for users. It has a CAN bus as well as an SPI port. This allows shields to be connected, with which several tasks can be carried out in parallel without any problems. In addition, the board has a 12-bit analog DAC.

The UNO R4 also took feedback from the community into account: the new model now has a USB-C connection. In addition, the thermal design has been improved and the maximum supply voltage has been increased to 24 V. The R4 has retained some popular characteristics: The microcontroller has the same form factor, the same shield compatibility and the same 5V operating voltage as its predecessor. In addition, the focus remains on software compatibility – the board works seamlessly with most existing libraries.

Available in different versions

The UNO R4 comes in two versions. The UNO R4 Minima is a budget version for those who don’t need or want to use additional features. In contrast, the UNO R4 is available with the Espressif S3 WiFi module in addition to the Renesas RA4M1. This guarantees even more possibilities for creative minds and hobbyists and is also ideal for teaching purposes and school projects.
