Install network socket - step by step guide

Install network socket – step by step guide

You want to install a classic network socket, but don’t know how to do it exactly? We explain in this guide how it works with the right tools and a little flair.

Sie brauchen
Stripper No. 2 Cat
LSA Sensor No. 40
Kabelschere No. 35
• Schraubendreher

Shorten cable

With the WEICON TOOLS cable cutter, cables can be easily cut and

Use the WEICON TOOLS Cable Cutter No. 35 to shorten the network cable (Cat. 7) if necessary. If the cable is too long, it will be difficult to stow it away in the cavity wall box.

Stripping network cable

If you want to install a classic network socket, you must first strip the Cat. 7 cable. A special stripping tool for data cables is used here – for example, the Stripper No. 2 Cat. Use side A to remove the protective jacket. The conductors cannot be damaged thanks to the precise blade setting. Please do not remove the shield braid that is now visible, but gently wrap it around the cable.

In the next step, strip the foil shielding that surrounds the individual strands of the so-called twisted pair wires. To do this, use side B of the stripping tool and make sure to strip only a few centimeters. You should remove the rest of the foil as late as possible.

Structure of a network cable

Laying network cable - this is how the structure of the LAN cable looks like.

Put on Cat. 7 cable

Now take the mounting plate of the network socket as well as the screwdriver, place the cable with a little dexterity in the strain relief provided and screw it tight.

Now a little color play follows: On the circuit board of the network socket, a color code indicates the sequence in which the individual wires must be connected. You can also refer to the manufacturer’s assignment plan. Whether you follow color scheme A or B depends on which assignment type has been used in the house so far. It is important that you take the same one again! In this example we have laid the individual cores according to type B.

Pre-sort the wire pairs, take the circuit board of the network socket and feed the wires through the circuit board to the front at the designated points. Now remove the rest of the foliation and twist the pairs of wires.

Install network socket with LSA laying tool

Install network socket with LSA laying tool

In the following step, a decisive tool comes into play – the LSA laying tool or LSA laying tool. With such a tool and a little pressure, you gradually press the individual wires into the insulation displacement connectors according to the color coding. The tool automatically removes any excess cable residue.

Finally, you just need to screw the support frame of the network outlet, place the complete insert in the wall and put on the plastic trim. As predicted at the beginning: with a little dexterity and the help of practical stripping tools, you can easily install a classic network outlet.
