Get rid of the dirt – Three tips for basic bike cleaning

If you love your bicycle, take care of it! Whether it’s a city-, trekking-, mountain-, racing-, folding bike, e-bike or any other model – your bike will thank you if you clean and care for it regularly. In this article we explain how you can give your bike the right basic cleaning in three simple steps.

Step 1: Remove coarse dirt

First of all basic cleaning is all about removing coarse dirt from the bicycle. The best way to do this is to use a soft sponge, some water and a special cleaning agent, such as the tried and tested bike cleaner from WEICON.

First, grab the sponge, dip it in the water and use it to soften the stuck-on dirt a little. As a general rule, do not use a high-pressure cleaner to thoroughly clean your bike. Because you run the risk of damaging sensitive components such as bearings, pinions and the like.

Now the bicycle cleaner is used. Apply this generously with the help of a pump sprayer and leave it on for three to five minutes. Then simply wipe off the loosened dirt with the sponge and clean again with water.

Step 2: Loosen stuck dirt

The coarse dirt is gone and the bike looks a lot better. Even so, stubborn dirt such as insects, smudges and stubborn films of dirt can remain. For such cases there are particularly powerful cleaners such as WEICON Multi-Foam. This is completely biodegradable and also cleans textiles. So it can not only be used on the bike itself, but also on bike trailers or pannier bags.

Simply spray the foam on at a distance of 25 centimeters, let it work for about 30 seconds, wipe off and you’re done.

Step 3: Sustainably protect the bike

To ensure that your bike is protected as long as possible and also has a really nice shine, apply a care spray as a finish to all surfaces, such as the frame, spokes and mudguard. But be careful: Do not spray on brake discs / pads or tires.

And so it continues

Fine cleaning – In the next part of this series we will focus on fine-tuning your bike. Then we’ll take a closer look at how to keep your drivetrain and chain supple.
