Hier leest u hoe de techniek werkt, aan welke voorwaarden moet worden voldaan en welke gangbare toepassingen er zijn.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Achtergronden bij PoE<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Met &#8220;Power over Ethernet&#8221; wordt de stroomvoorziening bedoeld van diverse netwerkapparaten via de LAN-kabel. Daarbij zorgt de kabel zo te zeggen niet alleen voor het leveren van gegevens, maar ook van energie. Het voordeel van deze techniek ligt voor de hand: er kan worden bespaard op de stroomkabel. Dat voorkomt weer de wirwar van kabels, bespaart ruimte op nauwe plekken en meestal ook op installatiekosten.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Belangrijke voorwaarden voor Power over Ethernet<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Om ervoor te zorgen dat een apparaat van stroom kan worden voorzien via het gegevensnetwerk, moet de datakabel niet alleen gegevens maar ook stroom leveren \u2013 idealiter via de netwerkverdeler. Daarom is deze procedure vooral geschikt voor IP-telefoons, switches, WLAN-access-points of bewakingscamera&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>Een ander punt waarmee voorafgaand aan de installatie rekening moet worden gehouden, is dat de kabel extra warm wordt. Hoe meer stroom er door een LAN-kabel stroomt, des te meer warmte er wordt gegenereerd door de weerstand. Dat is echter van invloed op de gegevensoverdracht. Daarom moet van tevoren worden onderzocht welke belasting de kabel aan moet kunnen en hoe de warmte van de kabel kan worden afgevoerd.<\/p>\n<p>Bovendien mag de kabel niet eindeloos lang zijn, want bij langere kabels treedt spanningsverlies op. Daarom moet bij de aanschaf van de kabel al rekening worden gehouden met de doorsnede van de binnendraad; de AWG-waarde daarvan mag niet hoger zijn dan 24 (CAT5).<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Meer over de techniek <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Er zijn meerdere mogelijkheden om stroom over te dragen via ethernetkabels:<\/p>\n<p>In een typische CAT5-kabel worden maar twee van de vier signaalparen gebruikt. In Modus B worden beide ongebruikte paren gebruikt voor de gegevensoverdracht. In Modus A worden de gegevens getransporteerd via dezelfde aderparen als 10\/100 MBit\/s ethernet, net als bij fantoomtoevoer van transistormicrofoons via losgekoppelde gegevensleidingen zonder gelijkspanning.<\/p>\n<p>Bij gigabit-ethernet en snellere verbindingen zijn alle vier de paren nodig voor de gegevensoverdracht. In dit geval leiden beide alternatieven stroom via de leidingsparen die ook nodig zijn voor de overdracht van gegevens.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Standaards<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Ook zijn de volgende standaards beschikbaar:<\/p>\n<p>De <strong>IEEE 802.3af-2003-standaard <\/strong>voorziet apparaten van maximaal 15,4 watt (min. 44 volt en 350 mA) op elke poort. Toch is slechts 12,95W gegarandeerd, omdat een groot deel bij de overdracht verloren gaat.<\/p>\n<p>De recentere <strong>IEEE 802.3at-2009-standaard <\/strong>(ook bekend onder de naam PoE+) biedt tot 25,5W. Deze standaard verbiedt de stroomoverdracht via alle vier de signaalparen.<\/p>\n<p>Een andere standaard die met name in industri\u00eble omgevingen zoals voertuigen of productiemachines belangrijk is, is <strong>IEEE 802.3bu (PoDL)<\/strong> voor kabels met \u00e9\u00e9n aderpaar. Er zijn hierbij tien niveaus van 5 tot 50W.<\/p>\n<p>Een nieuwe verdere ontwikkeling van de <strong>IEEE 802.3bt-standaard (4PPoE of PoE++) <\/strong>moet nog grotere capaciteit voor de stroomvoorziening beschikbaar maken: tot 55W (Level 3) en 100W (Level 4). Daarmee moet elk leidingenpaar een spanning van tot 600 resp. 960 mA kunnen behalen. Zo kan een volledige werkplek met computer, beeldscherm en telefoon van stroom worden voorzien via de LAN-kabel.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Prestatieklassen<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Afhankelijk van het inzetgebied en het apparaat dat van stroom moet worden voorzien kunnen verschillende prestatieklassen worden gekozen.
