Fraud, deceit, violence, sex: Whenever children and young people surf the Internet, they are only ever a few clicks away from the dark side of the digital world. Even 10 to 12-year-olds will often spend several hours a day on a computer and on the Internet. Stopping online access altogether is not the solution: The net is part of everyday life for kids today alongside television and music. Children should discover the web on their own, but be protected from possible dangers. Fritzbox parental controls offer a filter that prevents representations of sex and violence.
Set up Fritzbox parental controls
The filter of the Fritzbox applies not only for the PC but also for tablets and games consoles.
You can limit surfing duration and times, and block Internet pages that are dangerous for young people. How to set the Fritzbox parental controls:
- Set password: Log in to your Fritzbox via the browser by entering in the address line. Have you not yet set a secure password for access to your router menu? Then do it now. To do this click on System, FRITZ!Box user and Register on home network.
Select Register with the FRITZ!Box password, type a password and click Apply. - Set access rules: Then click on Internet, Filters and Access profiles. Click here on New access profile. Type something like “Child” in the name field. In the weekly schedule you can now specify the time of day that your child is able to browse the Internet.
To do this, select “limited” and set the permitted surf time for the entire week: To do this, drag the mouse while holding down the mouse button from the top left to the bottom right. In the blue highlighted time, browsing is permitted, otherwise not. You also set the maximum daily duration.
To do this, under “Time allocation” select the “limited” setting and type the number of minutes in the appropriate fields on the right side of the days of the week. You can also activate the field “Shared allocation”, if different network devices with the “Child” access profile are to share the maximum usage time. - Filter Internet pages: You can also block Internet pages for minors. Select Filter Internet pages as well as Block Internet pages (black list). This causes the Fritzbox to block all Internet pages that the German Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons has indexed.
For small children, it also makes sense to do this in reverse and only allow certain Web pages. To do this, select Allow Internet pages (white list) and edit the appropriate list. Once you have made your choice, click on OK. - Select device: In the Child lock tab, now search for the name(s) of your child’s computer or other Internet-enabled devices in the list. Right-click on Default. In the selection menu, select “Child” and click on OK. The child lock is now active.
