Just recently the new beta of Ultimaker Cura 4.2 was released. Below we present some new features that the new update will bring with it. The focus is on improving the user experience and 3D printing.
Orthographic View
As a professional user, you need more control over the 3D view type when preparing for printing. Version 4.2 introduces an orthographic view. This is the same view type used by professional CAD software packages. This makes it easy to compare the dimensions of a model with the CAD design. For the orthographic view, see View > Camera View > Orthographic.
Object List
Thanks to a new pop-up list in the main menu, file names and models can be better identified. Clicking a model in the Viewer highlights the file name. Alternatively, a file name in the list can be clicked to highlight the corresponding model. Between sessions, the list remains open or hidden.

Nozzle Switch Prime Distance
Certain materials “seep” more than others during retraction and long movements. vgribinchuk has developed a new setting that allows the restart distance to be fine-tuned so that the full extrusion width is achieved when a print is resumed. This makes printing artifacts a thing of the past.
Flow per feature
For maximum control over the 3D printing model, the material flow can be adapted to specific characteristics of the print, such as walls, fillings, columns, Prime Tower and adhesion.
Slice button delay
Small delays after clicking the slice button can be frustrating if you can’t clearly see whether something is happening or not. With the new version, the button text will display the word ‘Processing’ with a delay for better clarity.

Test the new beta today
More new features can be tested in the new beta, which you can download today. Feedback can be submitted to the Ultimaker community so that it can be incorporated into the development of the upcoming stable release. Click here for the beta download.
