The quality wire-end ferrules produced millions of times in Switzerland by Vogt AG Verbindungstechnik have been awarded the globally recognised UL safety test mark. Vogt’s wide range of UL ferrules covers cable cross-sections from 0.5 mm2 to 50 mm2 (AWG 20-1/0) and offers different ferrule lengths with matching certified crimping tools. The ferrules are tested according to UL 486F and CSA C22.2 No. 291-14.
Wire end ferrules – simple and safe
The classic wire-end ferrule is used where finely stranded conductor ends have to be inserted into a connection or terminal compartment without splicing. The wire-end ferrule consists of a tinned copper sleeve and an insulation collar made of polypropylene. The ferrule is pushed onto the stripped conductor end and crimped with a tool. Strand ends that are inserted into terminal or connection spaces must not be tin-plated to prevent splicing during insertion. Tin begins to flow under pressure, such as from a terminal screw. This could loosen the connection and cause faults such as interference, sparks or fires. The ferrule counteracts this – simply and safely.
UL – the quality mark
UL (Underwriters Laboratories) is a global, independent safety science company with 120 years of experience in standards development and product testing and certification. The UL Mark is one of the best known and most recognised certification marks in the world.

Unlike other electrical industry standards, which only define a minimum safety standard for a product, UL certification is a true mark of quality. UL inspects the product in detail and also takes a look at the production process. Before certification, strict, comprehensive checks are carried out, which are also repeated continuously after the quality mark has been awarded. UL inspectors visit the respective factory and check the production conditions and the quality of the manufactured products. The requirements are designed to ensure that the products meet the strict guidelines of the American and Canadian markets after the quality mark has been awarded.
The whole thing counts
It is not only the ferrule that has been UL-certified. The quality and safety of a cable connection according to the UL standard is only guaranteed if the conductor class of the stranded wire, the length of the stripping and the correct tool are used according to the specifications with the tested ferrule.
