The Renolamp renovation socket by Müller-Licht becomes a ceiling light in no time

The conventional renovation socket has many names, it is also called a construction socket, lamp socket or Edison socket. It is always present in a new flat or during renovation. Everyone is familiar with the sight of it dangling crookedly from the ceiling as a purely provisional solution – with the exposed cables definitely a safety risk – but the main thing is that you have light. A useful product to be able to screw in a light source, but not a pretty sight and not desirable for long. To be honest, we all know a place where such a renovation socket hangs longer than originally planned … sometimes for months.

As Renolamp, this type of socket has been reinvented. Apparently, good design doesn’t always have to be expensive. With the 2-in-1 Renolamp, product designer Claus Hencken has succeeded in creating a patented further development of a conventional renovation socket and at the same time a particularly inexpensive solution for a fully functional ceiling light.

With its discreet and unobtrusive appearance, the white Renolamp fits perfectly into all living areas. During renovation and construction work, the Renolamp provides optimal lighting conditions. After wrapping the cables around the neck of the socket, turning up the sleeve and screwing in a decorative light source, the Renolamp becomes a modern surface-mounted ceiling luminaire. In this way, it does its job in an exemplary manner, at least until another luminaire takes its place – but as we know, that can sometimes take a little longer…

It is the many small details of good product design that make the Renolamp so unique and interesting:

  • For example, the Renolamp is hollow in the neck area and slotted all the way to the mounting plate. This special design makes it possible to use the Renolamp first as a pendant renovation lampholder and then – without having to disconnect the power connection – to position it for mounting directly on the ceiling cable.
  • The small hole on the side is also unusual. It is intended for pulling the currentless earth cable (yellow/green) through it in order to be able to fix the Renolamp even closer to the ceiling cable. With this trick, it is even possible to temporarily fix the light Renolamp stably to the ceiling without tools. For a better understanding, you can find a Renolamp assembly video online.

  • The technical design of the Renolamp creates a special locking system. When you push the sleeve open, it snaps into place and there is a “click”. Then you carefully screw the E27 bulb into the socket while holding the sleeve with one hand. This way, it clicks again and the sleeve is additionally secured against sliding down towards the bulb and all cables are covered.
