Imagine a wireless technology which supplies its own energy. This is exactly the case for devices according to the EnOcean standard, which is becoming more and more established for innovative sensor solutions. The sensors and actuators control lighting, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning — and completely without batteries. The secret behind this on the one hand is the use of environmental energy and on the other hand is extremely low power consumption.
Extremely fast transmission reduces power consumption
Amazing: An EnOcean wireless module allows the transmission of a signal with the minimum use of energy of only 50 microwatt seconds.
What makes this possible is an extremely short signal duration, the entire process is done by the module in 1.8 milliseconds.
Transmission is carried out on the licence-free 868.3 Mhz band over a maximum distance of 300 metres. The compatibility with various wired house automation and bus systems makes the standard adaptable.
These often use EnOcean technology to expand their own systems where they are not flexible enough. Using gateways, the EnOcean wireless module connects with all relevant wired bus systems such as KNX, LON, DALI, BACnet and TCP/IP. Another plus point: EnOcean is largely maintenance-free as unlike other radio systems it does not require any annoying battery changes.
New sensors extend application possibilities
Eltako is now launching a large number of new sensors and actuators for the EnOcean standard, which expand the possibilities of systems in many areas.
The new components are various surge protection switches, wireless buttons, intermediate connectors, thermostats and many other products related to the networked home.
The components can be easily installed and connected to one another (paired) by the end-user.
