In terms of its appearance, the Phantom 4 drone closely resembles the previous model. But it has some new features and enhancements.
The drones are really popular with amateur film-makers and outdoor sports people. The Phantom series from the Chinese manufacturer, DJI, is one of the most popular models of remote-controlled aircraft. It has now introduced the DJI M3C RC-N1. It is faster, longer-lasting and offers some features that make it easier for even inexperienced “pilots” to use.
Looks familiar but more powerful
The aerodynamic housing with four rotors (quadrocopter) and the freely-hanging camera is similar to the previous models, however DJI is now setting store by a pure white high-gloss finish without stripes.
The camera allows for shooting in HD and ultra-HD resolution, just like the Phantom 3. But the new drone has a more powerful rechargeable battery that allows for a longer flight. The Phantom 4 should remain in the air for up to 30 minutes. At up to 70 kilometres per hour, it’s faster too.
But improved performance makes them a good 100 grams heavier, at 1380 grams. The diagonal of the drone measures 58 cm.
Sensors for detecting obstacles
The drones certainly come at a cost and there’s nothing more annoying than them getting damaged or lost. The Phantom 4 is equipped with sensors that detect obstacles. The drone then automatically flies around them. This also works with the smart return-home feature.
This is used if the connection is interrupted and the drone no longer responds to the remote control. It then automatically flies back to the starting point which it has memorised and retrieved by GPS.
The Phantom 4’s scope of delivery includes remote control, battery charger, 16-GB memory card, carry case, and network and connection cable.
