Reliable monitoring and structured data collection are central requirements for large-scale industrial sites and critical infrastructure. With the Ascento Research, Ascento Robotics provides an autonomous all-terrain robot designed as a modular platform for security and development applications.
Mobility in Real-World Scenarios
Thanks to its wheel and leg mechanisms, the system can move stably on flat surfaces and navigate minor obstacles with control. The system can traverse asphalt, paving stones, and uneven outdoor terrain without any adjustments. With a maximum speed of 5 km/h, it is ideal for scheduled patrols and defined test runs.
Its robust IP65-rated design allows it to be used in varying weather conditions. The battery provides approximately 4.5 hours of continuous operation. A docking station supports both automatic charging and autonomous operation with minimal manual interaction.
Autonomous navigation and structured data collection
In industrial security applications, the Ascento Research handles routine patrols of perimeters, access roads and remote areas. In research projects, autonomous navigation enables consistent driving profiles to be created for comparative measurements and algorithm validation.
The platform is equipped with a stereo RGB camera and supports the addition of thermal cameras, infrared cameras and LiDAR sensors. This sensor suite provides the foundation for detailed environmental perception, obstacle detection and data collection. GPS, Wi-Fi and 4G ensure connectivity and data transmission. These generate quantitative datasets that can be used for safety-related assessments and scientific analyses.
Open architecture for custom requirements
The Ascento Research is based on an open-source platform with root access. Both the hardware and the software can be customised to meet specific requirements. Additional sensors, expansion modules and custom applications can be integrated. Full compatibility with ROS1 and ROS2 facilitates integration into existing development environments.
Technical foundation for autonomous applications
The Ascento Research provides a robust foundation for autonomous processes in a variety of application areas. In industrial safety management, for example, the platform enables structured, autonomous control processes and consistent data collection, forming the basis for informed decision-making. In research and development, the system provides a flexible testing environment for robotics, sensor technology and AI algorithms in real-world conditions. This creates a scalable technical infrastructure for data-driven analysis, validation and continuous optimisation.
