It doesn’t have to be poison: pest control for garden and house

We are generally happy to have animal neighbours — but not always. Some animals can be a nuisance or take over. Fortunately there is the right solution for every troublemaker!

Vegetable-devouring rabbits

Rabbits eat away at the vegetables you planted with love. What we like, rabbits also like to eat. Traps are not the solution for animal lovers. Perhaps a wire fence. However, that has to be stuck in the ground, which costs a lot of time and money. Deterrence works just as well.

For example in the form of an electric dispeller. These devices work with sounds in the ultrasonic range. People cannot hear these sounds, but many wild animal species perceive them all the more so.

Lawn-destroying moles

In fact moles are very useful. They improve the structure of the soil and destroy pests such as snails, snail larvae and grubs. Unfortunately they also often turn nurtured lawn areas into a mine field full of brown mounds.

Moles are a protected species in Germany — which is not the only reason killing them is out of the question.

It is also not necessary: Their weak point is their hearing. Mole deterrents create seismic vibrations that spread in the earth and effectively dispel moles and other rodents.

Root-gnawing mice

Voles are sweet, but a real pest in the garden. They like to gnaw the roots of vegetables, fruit trees, berries and roses. Just below the grass surface they create a multi-branched network of tunnels. They also reproduce very quickly and are on the go the whole year round.

Their Achilles heel is their ears. Special repellents send signals that the mice do not like at all. The devices work with solar technology so no need for any wires.

Hard-working but annoying: Ants

Ants do many useful things in the garden. For instance, they are extremely hard-working pest terminators, with numerous herbivorous insects such as caterpillars and leaf beetle larvae on the menu. But: They look after aphids and protect them from herbivores. And some species like to nest under the patio, which affects stability.

You also don’t really want these industrious workers in your house. If you don’t want to throw around poison you can use an environmentally friendly solution, which emits ultrasound. It deters ants effectively and permanently.

Slimy and greedy: Slugs

Slugs have few natural enemies and therefore often multiply inhibited. If too many of them take over the garden, there won’t be much left. Using slug pellets as a pest control method does show rapid success, but has many drawbacks: The poison contained sometimes kills predators of the slug, and also kills snails.

It’s more environmentally friendly to combat slugs using a trap. You just put a little beer and salt in it, but it’s effective.

Mosquitoes and other pests

Balmy summer evenings, a glass of wine, relaxing music — life can be so beautiful. At least when there aren’t blood-suckers like mosquitoes and horseflies to spoil the mood. Fortunately, there are simple ways and means to get rid of these tormentors. For example by using an electronic insect zapper.

The blue light magically attracts unpleasant flying insects such as mosquitoes, flies and gnats and transports them to the afterlife via a live electrode. It works perfectly without hazardous chemicals or irritating fumes and odours.
