However, the market is growing rapidly, making the wide variety of models increasingly difficult to choose from. This guide provides an overview of how modern robot systems work and the differences between vacuum, mop and lawn robots. Robot vacuum cleaners – smart everyday helpers
Robot vacuum cleaners have become indispensable everyday helpers in many households, reliably and almost completely taking care of floor cleaning. They differ primarily in their functionality: there are vacuum robots only, mopping robots only, or combination devices that can do both. However, there are a few things to consider when purchasing one. The initial cost is usually very high and the installation effort for wired models is not insignificant. Furthermore, not every garden is equally suitable: in densely planted garden areas or on uneven terrain, the robot’s performance may be limited.
Important to know: Robotic lawn mowers are increasingly being viewed critically. Night-time operation in particular can pose a significant risk to small animals such as hedgehogs, as they are not always reliably detected by the sensors. In addition, very regular mowing can impair the natural development of plants and lead to reduced biodiversity in the garden in the long term.

Between convenience and control: security and data protection aspects
As household robots become more intelligent, the amount of sensitive data they collect is also increasing. Many devices store maps of living spaces, log usage times or capture images and sounds via cameras and microphones. This facilitates navigation and optimises performance, but at the same time raises questions about security and data protection.
