14 TB – so 14,000 GB – is currently the highest storage capacity available for 3.5 inch commercial hard drives. Seagate, the manufacturer specialising in storage media, has just introduced four models with this capacity for its Guardian series:
- IronWolf ST14000NE0008. This hard drive is suitable for NAS systems in private households and small businesses. Depending on the number of Network Attached Storage (NAS) drive slots, you can use up to eight hard drives of this type, and the data on it can be accessed by multiple users.
- IronWolf Pro ST14000VN0008. The Pro model can be used in NAS systems with up to 24 drive slots. Emergency data recovery is included for two years with Seagate’s Rescue Plan.
- Skyhawk ST14000VX0008. These hard drives have been designed especially for use in surveillance systems. Eight or more drive slots can be used, and video recordings from up to 64 HD cameras can be stored on the hard drive.
- BarraCuda Pro ST14000DM001. These hard drives are particularly fast and therefore well suited for users who work with large amounts of data, such as creative professionals. As with all Pro models in the Guardian series, emergency data recovery is included for two years with Seagate’s Rescue Plan.
The four models work with a SATA port (transfer rate 6 GB/second) and are designed for continuous use thanks to their stable construction. Measuring at 26.11 x 101.85 x 146.99 mm (height x width x depth), they are suitable for standard drive slots.
