The SEP8706 series consists of an aluminium–gallium-arsenide diode with infrared light output, transfer moulded into in a grey plastic enclosure with lateral light output. The chip is positioned so that it can emit a beam through a plastic lens in the side of the enclosure. These devices usually have 70%-higher output intensity than gallium-arsenide components at the same forward current.
