A potentiometer is an electrical resistor whose resistance values can be changed mechanically. If a voltage of 5 V is generated when the knob is turned, then the output voltage of the centre pin will have a value between 0 V and 5 V. This value is transmitted via the centre pin of the potentiometer.

Output: This module generates an output signal between 0 V and 5 V. These values refer to the position of the centre pin (0 V = completely left, 5 V = completely right). If the module is connected to an Arduino™ input that uses a TinkerKit shield, then the values will be between 0 and 1023.

Description: This module contains a 4.7-kOhm linear potentiometer, a signal amplifier, a 3-pin standard TinkerKit connector, a green LED to indicate that the module is connected correctly and a yellow LED, whose intensity indicates the position of the potentiometer.

This is a sensor. The connector is an OUTPUT, which must be connected to an INPUT on the TinkerKit shield.
